The Philadelphia Phillies (69-50) entered the first game of their homestand needing a win to try and break this extended slump they have been in. The Miami Marlins (45-75) had other plans.

    Taijuan's Return

Taijaun Walker (3-4, 5.68 ERA) returned from the injured list on Tuesday and picked up right where he left off.

The Marlins jumped on Walker early, drawing two walks in the first inning and driving them in on two singles to give the Marlins an early 2-0 lead.

Walker would work a solid second inning, getting all three batters in the inning out in a row on seven pitches.

The third would see Jake Burger hit a lead-off home run, his 23rd home run of the season, to give the Marlins a 3-0 lead. Walker would not allow another run in his start.

Walker's night would end after the fourth, allowing three earned runs on four hits and three walks while striking out five.

    Notable Stats

    • Alec Bohm extended his on-base streak to 30 games with a one-out walk in the bottom of the fourth.
    • Nick Castellanos continues to be one of the most consistent hitters on the team this season. Entering Tuesday with a .278/.329/.483 line, he added to that by going 1-for-3 with a double.
    • While Castellanos has been consistent, Bryce Harper has been hot again in August. Entering Tuesday with a .325/.386/.550 line in August, Harper went 1-for-4 on Tuesday.
    • While Harper has been hot in August, Trea Turner has been ice cold. Entering Tuesday with a .186/.205/.233 line in August, Turner went 0-for-4 with a strikeout.

    WPA Leader of the Night

Tuesday's WPA leader of the night was Marlins rookie Valente Bellozo (2-1, 2.28 ERA). Bellozo remained calm the entire night and was never phased by the star power staring him down from the plate.

Bellozo's line for the night ended with a career-high seven innings pitched, allowing no runs on four hits and one walk while striking out four. His WPA for the night ended at 33.3.

    Next Up

Next up for the Phillies in game two of this two-game series on Wednesday. The first pitch for Wednesday's game is scheduled for 6:40 PM EST.

The game will be broadcast on NBC Sports Philadelphia and Bally Sports Florida.

Phillies fans can listen to the game on 94 WIP and WTTM 1680.
