Justin Vincent had a very successful career at LSU, rushing for over 2,000 yards and scoring 17 touchdowns for the Tigers.

In 2003, he won the MVP award for both the SEC Championship and BCS National Championship games.

Today, he continues to play a vital role in the university’s growth as he enters his eighth year as LSU’s Director of Alumni Engagement.

It was great to catch up with Justin and discuss his expectations for this year's Tigers.

Craig: So many of our readers recall you as a freshman, jumping in and the Tigers riding you to that 2004 National Championship. What do you remember most about that first official start vs South Carolina?

Justin: Well, the game the week before against Florida Joe Addai went down, and I was thrusted into action and then as you said the next week I was given the nod against South Carolina. It all happened really fast.

Craig: Do you feel more proud about winning the SEC Title Game against Georgia or the BCS win, considering that the South Carolina game was the turning point for you and the Tigers in the regular season?

Justin: I actually would rank the SEC Championship game as my personal favorite. That was our second time facing Georgia. Nobody in the world thought we could win (laughs). Getting on that field and the turf, I can remember walking in pre-game with Skyler Green, the surface had so much bounce to it, I can vividly remember saying to him that nobody was going to catch me that day. The other nice thing about that game was that my Mom, Dad, Uncles were all in attendance.

Craig: And what about the BCS Title and winning that in the Superdome?

Justin: That actually felt like a home game. Louisiana always gets behind the Saints and the LSU Tigers. The dome was rocking, the city was rocking, it was a great time to be alive. Grandma came to that game which was extra special.

Craig: Do you think the opening play of that BCS Title Game set the tone for the day

Justin: Oh 100%. On that play, the blitzer should've tackled me for a 5-yard loss.He went too wide; I dipped underneath him and took off. After running for those 64 yards, I got up and I was like we're going to win this game today!

Craig: What do you think of this year's group of Tigers Running Backs? They have lots of talent once again at that position.

Justin: All of those guys bring something different to the table. Josh Williams has a great knowledge of the offense, and he can be a threat catching the ball out of the backfield. Kaleb Jackson is so big, he can get between the tackles and make you pay on the outside and Trey Holly we saw briefly last year, and his speed is incredible. I actually saw Trey play in High School. Caden Durham, he brings power and soft hands and the whole package. I think the backfield is the least of their concerns this year.

Craig: What concerns do you have for the Tigers?

Justin: Things need to fall into place. We need more bodies on the defensive line. I think also this next year you'll see the progression of Garrett Nussmeier. I've had the luxury of knowing him and his family for a long time. His mom lives near me. I'm truly excited.

Craig: So, you're feeling good about this upcoming season?

Justin: 100%. Kyren Lacy and Shelton Sampson can make plays. Aaron Anderson will be in the slot and can mix things up with him. Barring injuries, that group can be as good as they want to be.

Craig: Are you excited to open the season in Las Vegas against USC?

Justin: I will be there! I can't wait!
