'Wasted Energy!' Steelers Coach On Brandon Aiyuk Trade Worries

The rumors continue to swirl around Brandon Aiyuk and the Pittsburgh Steelers . The latest report states the deal is in place and the only holdup is the San Francisco 49ers star himself signing off on the trade.

Aiyuk would be a definite upgrade to the receiver room and make an amazing pairing with up-and-coming star George Pickens. But that isn’t something offensive coordinator Arthur Smith is worrying about.

"All I worry about is who I have," Smith said. "It's wasted energy. Everybody would love to have a perfect roster. That just doesn't exist. I'll coach whoever they bring in here, but it's our job and my job to more importantly worry about the guys that are here."

Smith’s attitude echoes most coaches around the league and beyond. Nobody can afford waste time thinking of dream scenarios in the real football world. Smith is right; he can only worry about who is on the field right now for the Steelers, and he thinks he has a pretty good group.

He is especially high on Van Jefferson and Scotty Miller, both of whom have won Super Bowls in their career.

"We've got multiple weapons," Smith added. "Both of those guys played on Super Bowl-winning teams. They've got a lot of experience. They're hungry. They've both had excellent camps."

As the Aiyuk trade saga continues, Smith is focused on who he has in front of him. If the trade happens, great. If it doesn’t, great. Smith is not phased either way.
