With Marquise “Hollywood” Brown being out 4-6 weeks with a shoulder injury, Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy says that sixth-year receiver Justin Watson is “stepping in.”

Following Tuesday’s practice, Nagy was asked if he had any ideas on how they would replace Brown in the lineup.

"Yeah, nothing real different right now other than J-Wat stepping in," Nagy said. "J-Wat has been so great. He's invaluable in the fact of just understanding every spot.

“For him to kind of know this offense where he's at, steps right on in, we change the name of the personnel, per se, and the guys just keep rolling. They're doing a good job.

“I think it's one of those deals they've just got to know: it's a next-man-up mentality. We want Hollywood to get back as soon as he can, but we've got to keep rolling and we've got the guys to do it."

Last season, Watson set career highs in catches (27), targets (53), yards (460) and touchdowns (3). It’s safe to say that quarterback Patrick Mahomes knows how to find him if he’s on the field.

He did have a lost fumble last year. He also returned 5 punts for the Chiefs in a pinch last season. With so many young guys in the receiver room, Watson’s veteran presence helps to keep everything on an even keel.

The Chiefs will host the Detroit Lions on Saturday at 3 p.m. CT, and Watson could get plenty of targets in the game.
