Chiefs' Rival Jim Harbaugh Opening Door For Colin Kaepernick vs. Harrison Butker?

Is America ready for Harrison Butker vs. Colln Kaepernick?

If Jim Harbaugh gets his wish, the AFC East rivalry between the Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers could become even more emotionally charged. While the Chiefs sport Butker, a conservative hero after his controversial commence speech last Spring, the liberal lightning rod Kaepernick apparently has an offer to join the Chargers.

Harbaugh, entering his first year coaching the Chargers, said in a recent interview that he reached out Kaepernick early in 2024 about joining his team ... not as a player but rather an assistant coach.

"Yeah, we talked a little bit about it," Harbaugh told USA Today. "He's considering it. He was out of the country. He said he was going to get back to me. We haven't reconnected since then. That was early, early in the year. He'd be a tremendous coach, if that's the path he chose."

Harbaugh is back in the NFL after leading the Michigan Wolverines to last year's college football national championship. In his previous stint coaching the San Francisco 49ers, Harbaugh guided his team - which was quarterbacked by Kaepernick - to Super Bowl XLVII.

The quarterback became a nationally polarizing figure when he decided to kneel during the pre-game National Anthem in protest of racial inequality in America. Now 36, he took his last snap in the NFL on New Year's Day 2017. He had a tryout with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2022 but didn't sign.

"We're still training, still pushing," Kaepernick said in an interview earlier this year when asked about a possible comeback. "So hopefully, we've just got to get one of these team owners to open up."
