WNBA Rookies Make Video Game History

    By Lance Roberson,

After NBA 2K revealed the face scans for Indiana Fever Caitlin Clark and Chicago Sky Angel Reese in their latest game, NBA 2K25, it was only a matter of time before the video game company released their player ratings. Aside from the two rookie All-Stars creating another wave of fandom in the WNBA, they also set a precedent in NBA 2K games.

NBA 2K rated Clark and Reese 90 overall, the highest rating for a rookie. Last season, NBA 2K gifted San Antonio Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama with an 84 rating. Even with the hype Wembanyama brought to the NBA, 2K wouldn't dare give the French star such a high rating.

However, in light of the apparent boom in attention and Clark and Reese's respective statistical records, 2K considered the WNBA rookies worthy of the highest mark in its history. Between Clark setting the WNBA single-game record with 19 assists and Reese's 15 consecutive double-double streak, the two All-Stars warrant a significant rating.

Conversely, ranking rookies at such a rating, typically reserved for the best players in the league, will likely provoke polarizing discourse until the 2K25's release in September. NBA 2K25 will also feature a Rookie of the Year Campaign mode.

More to come on that feature later.

Although ratings are a hot topic on social media, real-life basketball is on the mind of the Fever as they fight to keep their playoff spot for the first time since 2016.
