It appears some of the pieces may be falling into place for a training camp trade involving the Cleveland Browns and the Minnesota Vikings.

In Minnesota, rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy was lost for the season with a torn meniscus. Surgery was successful to repair the injury, but he will miss his entire rookie season.

In Cleveland, their quarterback room is stacked. Deshaun Watson is the starter and Jameis Winston is the backup, so that leaves two players battling for the third quarterback spot. ... Second-year quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson and fifth-year quarterback Tyler Huntley.

DTR has impressed everyone around the team through offseason workouts and training camp. In last week’s preseason game against the Vikings, he completed 77.8 percent of his passes connecting on 14-18 attempts while leading the Browns on a touchdown drive in the fourth quarter.

Huntley connected on 6-of-9 pass attempts for 41 yards, no touchdowns and no turnovers.

With the news in Minnesota, should the Browns offer up Huntley to the Vikings before potentially cutting him? Maybe a final-day draft pick will get the job done.

Huntley has started nine games in his previous four seasons in Baltimore and made the Pro Bowl in 2022. Meanwhile, we assume the Browns aren’t looking to get rid of DTR, a player general manager Andrew Berry took in the fifth round a year ago.

The two teams play this week, and we believe it would be wise to give Huntley plenty of snaps and opportunities to show off his skills.

The Vikings need a quarterback and the Browns have one too many. This seems like something both teams need to discuss.
