ESPN Makes Surprising Move, Fires Robert Griffin III

Robert Griffin III's time with ESPN has apparently come to an end.

According to The Athletic's Andrew Marchand, Griffin was fired by ESPN, despite having two years remaining on his contract. Griffin signed a multi-year deal with ESPN in August 2021.

Griffin, 34, was a regular on many of ESPN's top football programs, covering both the NFL and college football. He became a significant addition to "Monday Night Countdown" before being replaced by Jason Kelce this offseason. He also announced college football games alongside Bob Wischusen.

It's still unknown exactly what led to Griffin's firing. However, the timing is a bit unusual, considering the football season is set to start in just a couple of weeks.

When he first began his analyst career, Griffin's stock quickly rose. But recently, his popularity had started to wane.

Griffin played eight seasons in the NFL, compiling a 16-26 record. He threw for 9,271 yards and rushed for another 1,809 yards, totaling 53 touchdowns and 30 interceptions. His career was cut short due to continuous injuries that dated back to his time in college at Baylor, where he was a Heisman Trophy winner.
