Jets' Robert Saleh Gives Positional Update on Olu Fashanu

When Olu Fashanu was drafted by the New York Jets with the 11th overall pick, the organization appeared open to the idea of the Penn State product learning many positions right away.

While they have since changed their mind in the hopes of Fashanu learning and mastering his natural left tackle spot, the idea of making him a swing tackle has not died completely.

Over the last few practices alone, the Jets have begun cross-training the top tackle prospect to learn not just his natural position on the left side, but right tackle as well.

As the 2024 regular season gets closer to the beginning, though, Jets head coach Robert Saleh has made clear that the cross-training will only go so far on most gamedays - especially Saturday's preseason contest against the Carolina Panthers.

"We'll talk about it after today to see how we want to, depending on who plays and who doesn't during the game," Saleh explained. "We just want to allow him to play one position, I don't want him jumping around during the game."

How Fashanu looks potentially at right tackle in game situations could be very telling to see if New York can rely on him to potentially replace both Tyron Smith and Morgan Moses during games or not.

While early returns show the Jets have seemingly found a dominant player at the left tackle position, the organization remains thrilled with the work Fashanu has done on the right side as well.
