Is Vic Fangio Right in Playing Eagles Starters in Preseason?

Foxboro continues to be hit with a torrential downpour as the Philadelphia Eagles and New England Patriots get set to play their preseason contest to kick off Week 2 of the exhibition season.

Unlike most teams across the league, defensive coordinator Vic Fangio is expected to play most of the starters for a second straight week as the group tries to prove themself and earn more playing time.

Is Fangio in the right, though?

The longer starting caliber players are out in the preseason, the more likely they are of sustaining an injury, and Philadelphia's depth on the roster is not as good - especially on defense.

The fact of the matter is that the Eagles had one of the worst defenses in football last season. Many of the starters on the roster were a part of that unit.

If they feel they deserve the opportunity of sitting out of preseason games, then they should be a group worthy of doing so. Under a new play-caller and new system of operating, there isn't a single defender who is worthy enough to do so.

Fangio may be gambling with the health of players, but with a group as bad as it was last season, the Eagles defense doesn't deserve the benefit of the doubt just yet.
