Vikings provide encouraging update on WR Jordan Addison's injury

A day after Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jordan Addison was carted off the field with an ankle injury, the team provided an encouraging update on Thursday after the second joint practice with the Cleveland Browns.
Head coach Kevin O'Connell said Addison's injury isn't severe, even though the wideout didn't practice on Thursday.
"I don't see him missing any extended time," O'Connell told media members in Cleveland.
The head coach didn't go into further details on what he meant by that but it's safe to say — at least for now — Vikings fans can be at ease knowing their No. 2 wide receiver should be on the field by Sept. 8 when the team opens its regular season against the New York Giants.
Addison will be a key piece to the Vikings' wide receiver room that drops off in talent after him and Justin Jefferson. It'll also be crucial for both of them to stay healthy as tight end T.J. Hockenson works his way back from an ACL injury.
Addison had a great rookie season, snagging 70 passes for 911 yards and 10 touchdowns, as he stepped up in Jefferson's absence when the former LSU standout missed several games last year.
While he's expected to be ready for the regular season, Addison also faces a potential suspension after he was charged with DUI stemming from an incident in July.
The good news is certainly welcomed by Vikings fans, as it was learned rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy would miss the 2024 season after a full repair surgery on his meniscus in his right knee was successfully completed Wednesday morning.
O'Connell also mentioned to reporters on Thursday that linebacker Blake Cashman needed surgery for an injured finger during Wednesday's practice and is expected to return to the field once the stitches heal.
