Saints Coach Sets Record Straight On Alvin Kamara's Absence Amid Contract Desires

It's no secret to anyone around the New Orleans Saints organization that running back Alvin Kamara wants a contract extension. The veteran made that known when he skipped the final practice in minicamp this summer, but he's more or less been a participant in training camp.

That being said, Kamara has missed a couple of practices this week due to back tightness and he's yet to return. That had some wondering if his absence has anything to do with the contract saga and according to head coach Dennis Allen, it's strictly related to the injury that has bothered Kamara before.

    Via Luka Johnson of NOLA.com:

"As far as I know, zero related (to his contract)," Allen said. "He's got some back tightness, this is something he's dealt with before."

Kamara's contract situation is something to monitor. While there are two years left on his deal, none of his $22.4 million base pay in 2025 is guaranteed.

The 29-year-old ran for 694 yards on 180 carries last season for the Saints, including five touchdowns in 13 contests. It will be interesting to see if the two sides can reach an extension agreement before Week 1.
