Cooper Witten, son of former Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten , has made a significant impact in the college recruiting world. According to 247 Sports’ updated rankings released on August 14, Cooper is ranked as the No. 25 overall recruit in the country, the No. 2 safety, and the fifth-ranked player in Texas.
Cooper’s success is partly attributed to his father, Jason Witten, who serves as the head coach at Liberty Christian School, where Cooper plays. Standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 210 pounds, Cooper played on the varsity team as a freshman in 2023.
He excelled on both offense and defense but primarily shone as a defensive back, recording 82 tackles, two interceptions (one returned for a touchdown), six pass deflections, two forced fumbles, and three blocked field goals. His performance was instrumental in Liberty Christian winning its first state championship, earning him first-team all-district and first-team all-state honors.
Cooper has garnered attention from several prestigious colleges, receiving offers from Baylor , Duke , Missouri , Oklahoma , and TCU . His older brother, CJ Witten, also coached by their father at Liberty Christian, is being recruited for the class of 2025 as a linebacker. Although CJ has not been ranked by 247 Sports, he has received offers from Arkansas State , Rice , Lamar, Houston Christian, Army , and Missouri State .
The Witten family’s legacy in football continues to grow, with Cooper’s achievements marking the beginning of what promises to be an illustrious career. As Cooper continues to develop his skills and gain experience, the college football world eagerly anticipates his next steps and potential impact at the collegiate level. His journey is a testament to hard work, dedication, and the strong support system provided by his family and coaching staff.
