Victor Wembanyama Hosts Spurs in Paris

    By Lance Roberson,

Despite the San Antonio Spurs missing the playoffs for the fifth consecutive year, they managed 13 ESPN and TNT broadcasted games. Regardless of where San Antonio finishes in the Western Conference, the power of Wemby gravitates nations of eyes. Following a silver-medal finish at the Paris Olympics, the NBA capitalized on a few international games and continued their Moody Center matchups.

There are a handful of intriguing matchups for the 2024-25 season.

Dec. 25 at New York Knicks

It's finally happening: the Spurs are playing on Christmas Day. The last time the Spurs played on the high-profile NBA schedule was against the Chicago Bulls during the 2016-17 season. The gravitas of Wembanyama will earn you an opportunity, even if it's a random game against the New York Knicks in Madison Square Garden.

On Christmas Day, the Spurs will face a team without any relevance between the two unless you trace it back to the 1999 NBA Finals. Nonetheless, an 11 AM Central start to face the Knicks, as you open presents, is a gift in itself, regardless of matchup history.

WNov. 19 vs. Oklahoma City Thunder

Wembanyama is the reigning Rookie of the Year award winner. However, Chet Holmgren was a respectable runner-up candidate. The two young centers will battle on both sides of the ball on Nov. 19 on TNT, as Charles Barkley and Shaquille O'Neal complain about who isn't posting up enough or how "they need to dominate."

Regardless of the halftime discourse, the two young centers won't disappoint after Holmgren played a significant role in the Thunder's playoff performance. Wembanyama's hunger for winning intensified following a successful Olympic run, and his "warning" to opponents alluded to the ferocity for which Wembanyama would release the upcoming season.

    Jan. 25 vs. Indiana Pacers

For a team known for pioneering drafting and signing international talent, it's fitting the Spurs play two games in France during the 2024-25 season. Wembanyama is the giraffe in the room, as it's rather apparent why the NBA chose Paris as the "neutral" match for the Spurs vs. Indiana Pacers game.

The Spurs and Pacers will play in the Accor Arena in Paris, France, at 11 AM Central Time.

    Feb. 20 vs. Phoenix Suns

Wembanyama will play his childhood idol, Durant, on Feb. 20 in what should be considered a home game, as it's in Texas. However, considering Durant's alma mater is the University of Texas, the crowd could be split between Durant fans and black-and-silver Spurs jerseys.

As a part of its I-35 series, the Spurs will play two consecutive games at the Moody Center in Austin, Texas. Fortunately for the fans, the Spurs' matchup with the Phoenix Suns comes in the first half of a back-to-back schedule.

The first two matchups between the Phoenix and San Antonio included memorable moments, including the Spurs coming back to beat the Suns and Wembanyama and Durant exchanging highlights at the expense of each other.

The game starts at 8:30 PM Central Time on TNT.
