One of the top transfer portal additions for the Longhorns this offseason was former Clemson safety Andrew Mukuba. A former four-star recruit in the 2021 class, Mukua compiled 42 total tackles and six passes defended for Clemson last fall.

Earlier this week, Mukuba opened up to the Behind the Facemask podcast regarding his decision to transfer.

"I felt like I wasn't really getting better," Mukuba said. "I wasn't being pushed enough to where I could reach my potential and my peak. The program wasn't where it needed to be for me and the whole team to be successful. After my junior year, I felt like it was the same thing. After that, it was only right for me to transfer."

Mukua ranked as the third-best safety and 29th-ranked overall prospect in the transfer portal this offseason, and the writing was on the wall for the Longhorns to land the Austin, Texas native.

"Everything has played to my favor," Mukuba continued. "I'm looking to have a big year, and there isn't any better place to do it than in a big league like the SEC. Coach Sark is a really standup guy. He's a father figure. He cares about his players and where the program is heading. He was the coach I wanted to play for."

Mukuba has a fascinating background, having lived in Zimbabwe until he was eight. A late bloomer in football, Mukuba will have the opportunity for a career year working with defensive passing game coordinator and secondary coach Terry Joseph.
