Commanders' Frankie Luvu To Be Micah Parsons-esque?

Washington Commanders linebacker Franke Luvu has carved out quite the career for an undrafted free agent. Following the 2018 NFL Draft, he was signed by the New York Jets. He spent three years in New York as a backup before heading to Carolina to play with the Panthers.

In 2022 he became a starter and his career took off as he collected 111 total tackles and 7.0 sacks. He followed that up last year with 125 total tackles and 5.5 sacks.

He signed with Washington this offseason and one national site believes the Commanders will use him much like Micah Parsons in Dallas.

“The defensive acquisition that’s stood out is, for sure, Frankie Luvu,” the site writes. “He’s not Micah Parsons, but Dan Quinn signed him with the idea that he could be a movable piece in the front seven the way Parsons was for him in Dallas, and Luvu looks capable as a player who’s quick, explosive, and clearly at his best moving toward the line of scrimmage”

Quinn’s defenses are known for creating pressure and turnovers. If Luvu can be moved around to create mismatches for opposing offenses and get to the quarterback, that would definitely increase the Commanders' odds of having a productive Year 1 of their rebuild.

Luvu alongside Bobby Wagner playing behind Jonathan Allen, Daron Payne and Dorance Armstrong should get plenty of pressure on the quarterback.

If Luvu can get just a decent percent of the pressure that Parsons does with the Dallas Cowboys, Frankie might just qualify as the free agent steal of the year.
