Suspension Looming For Diana Taurasi After Fifth Technical Foul

Phoenix Mercury veteran Diana Taurasi received her fifth technical foul of the 2024 WNBA season on Thursday night.

During a clash against the Chicago Sky, Phoenix's Sophie Cunningham and Chicago's Michaele Onyenwere were issued a double technical for an on-court altercation. Taurasi received a technical for her role in the conflict as well.

By rule, any player who reaches seven technical fouls in a single season is hit with an automatic one-game suspension. Taurasi is now two techs away from reaching that mark.

The Mercury have by far the most team technical fouls in the league so far this season with 23. The Las Vegas Aces have the next highest number at 12.

Two Mercury players now have five technical fouls: Taurasi and Natasha Cloud. Kahleah Copper, who played the first half of her 2024 season in Phoenix, also picked up her fifth on Thursday night.

A WNBA player has been issued an automatic one-game suspension for reaching seven technical fouls on 15 occasions in league history, according to acrossthetimeline.com.

Taurasi accounts for six of those occasions.

The Mercury took care of Angel Reese and the Sky on Thursday night, winning with an 85-65 final score. DT and her squad will take the court again for a matchup against Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever on Friday night.
