WNBA veterans Diana Taurasi and Brittney Griner marched into Chicago and took down the Sky in dominant fashion during their first game back from the Olympic break.
The Mercury defeated the Sky 85-65, with Griner leading the way on both ends of the floor. The 6-foot-9 center posted 23 points, nine rebounds, six assists, and five blocks.
Taurasi finished the game with 11 points and four assists. One of those assists was posted in a highlight reel for the 42-year-old guard.
The talented shooting guard drove into the basket and passed her defender with a punch dribble into the paint. Once she had an open lane, Sky center Kamilla Cardoso played help defense on Taurasi, and the Mercury star found Griner with a behind-the-back pass that had the stadium roaring.
WNBA fans seemed to love the pass, sharing their thoughts on the chemistry between Taurasi and Griner.
"Dee's highlight reel is lengthy. But add this to the list of nastiest passes she's ever thrown," posted the Phoenix Mercury's official admin.
Griner and Taurasi have been playing together since the talented center was a rookie in 2013. They've since won three Olympic gold medals together and the WNBA Championship in 2014.
While both veteran stars are nearing the end of their careers, they've made it clear that their ultimate goal this season is to hoist up another WNBA title trophy.
They started the second half of the season on the right foot and will look to keep their foot on the gas to achieve their goal this year.
Phoenix will take on Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever on Friday at 7:30 p.m. ET on the second night of a back-to-back.
