Paul Finebaum Names College Football Powerhouse That ‘Underachieves Annually’

The Texas A&M Aggies always appear to be on the cusp of a breakthrough, yet frequently fall short of expectations.

The Aggies believed that hiring Jimbo Fisher would help them achieve greater success. Fisher had previously won a national championship at Florida State, and the Aggies hoped he could do the same for them. However, after six seasons, during which they had more losing seasons than seasons with 10 or more wins, Fisher was dismissed.

The Aggies' history has led ESPN's Paul Finebaum to name Texas A&M as one of the most underachieving programs in college football.

"I think, for the most part, that program has underachieved annually," Finebaum said. "It's probably one of the more underachieving programs in college football."

Finebaum stated that he considers the Aggies to be underachieving not because they are mediocre but because they are expected to be great. They rarely live up to those expectations.

The statistics support this claim. Since 2000, the Aggies have only had one season with 10 wins. Additionally, they have almost as many losing seasons as they do seasons with nine or more wins (five losing seasons compared to six seasons with nine or more wins).

The Aggies have been ranked 20 times in 24 seasons but have finished the season unranked 18 times. Finebaum believes the Aggies should be a better program, but the numbers show that the Aggies have mostly disappointed.
