ESPN Star Analyst Makes Wild Claim About Skipping Wedding To Watch Football

If you're a fan of football, whether at the college or NFL level, then you know that one of the unwritten rules of fandom concerns weddings, and when you can and can not schedule them.

In simple terms, planning a wedding for any time between September and January is a huge faux pas in the sports community. Why? Because that's football season, and spending your weekend doing anything but vegging out on the couch and watching over a dozen hours of games is considered sacrilegious.

The non-football fans may roll their eyes at this, but it's a very real mindset in the football community. So much so that one of ESPN's top analysts and former players — Booger McFarland — is saying it's okay to skip a wedding if it landed on one of these weekend days.

In particular, the question was about Saturday, October 12th. When looking at the college football calendar, this is one of the most loaded days in terms of matchups, bringing us Oregon vs. Ohio State, Texas vs. Oklahoma, Ole Miss vs. LSU, and Penn State vs. USC, all of which are currently top-25 matchups.

So would Booger skip a friend's wedding in order to watch this slate of games? Take it one step further — McFarland says he'd skip his own wedding if it were October 12.

Thanks to modern technology, weddinggoers on this day will at least be able to watch games from their phones from under the table, or huddled in the corner of the reception.

Or, wedding planners can do the smart thing and just avoid this day altogether. That seems like a better idea.
