The Miami Heat fans have been left disappointed by the franchise's approach to this offseason. No major additions have been made. In fact, one could argue that the roster has been weakened over the summer.

The only real piece of good news is that Jimmy Butler looks set to stay in Miami. There were major doubts over his future earlier in the summer.

Long-term doubts still remain though. There is an expectation that Butler will look to put together an impressive season before testing the waters for a big contract next summer.

Butler has two years left on his current contract with the Heat, but the second of those is a player option.

The idea of the Heat trading Butler and starting afresh cannot be completely ruled out either.

In a prediction piece on TWSN , Daniel Alameda put forward the idea of a potential trade that could see Butler heading to Houston in exchange for Jalen Green and additional assets.

It would see the Heat receive Green, a future first-round pick and a second-round pick. On the other hand, the Rockets would receive a future second-round pick.

Discussing the trade further, Alameda wrote: "For Miami, it’s about embracing the future and building around their young talent. For Houston, it’s about bringing in a leader who can guide their promising core to the next level. In a league where timing is everything, this trade could be the perfect move to set both franchises on the path to success."

Of course, it goes without saying that Green is nowhere near Butler's level at the moment. He had a fantastic debut season but his numbers have somewhat plateaued over time.

In fact, some have gone down. He averaged 22.1 points per game in his sophomore season and 19.6 in the third (2023-24). His three-point shooting has dropped season-over-season as well although not drastically.

The only parameter in which Green seems to have improved a lot is his rebounding. He went from 3.7 rebounds per game in 2022-23 to 5.2 in 2023-24.

Yet, there are still high hopes around the 2nd overall pick from the 2021 NBA Draft. Perhaps a move to Miami could help unlock Green's potential.
