Commanders Officially Enter Jayden Daniels Era

A new Era in Washington has begun as the Commanders have officially announced that No. 2 overall pick quarterback Jayden Daniels will be the starter when the regular season opens at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sept. 8.

After a dismal 4-13 season a year ago, new owner Josh Harris stripped it down and started over. By virtue of their horrible record, Washington had the ability to choose the reigning Heisman Trophy winner to lead its rebuild.

In two preseason starts, Daniels has yet to turn the ball over, connecting on 12-of-15 passes for 123 yards with no scores or interceptions.

Before camp opened, coach Dan Quinn declared that competition would be the name of the game regardless of the position. Daniels and Marcus Mariota split the reps, but it became apparent quickly that Daniels was the leader in the club house, as it were.

Coach Quinn also said that they would know when he was ready to start when camp opened. Well, it’s safe to say they know now.

“He's ready and he's earned the right,” said coach Quinn at his press conference on Monday.

The Commanders take to the road for the opening game of the season when they play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sept. 8.
