Scouting Report on Xavier Worthy - 'Lightning Fast!'

Kansas City Chiefs speed merchant Xavier Worthy is slowly starting to get his feet underneath him in Andy Reid's offense.

With a clear intent to get the rookie some touches in real NFL action, Worthy connected with Patrick Mahomes for a 39-yard completion before linking up with Carson Wentz for a 22-yard touchdown grab as he got some much-needed snaps against the Detroit Lions.

For fellow receiver Justin Watson, it is good to see Worthy progress each week, and he expects the rookie to continue improving as the year goes on.

“You know he’s lightning fast,” Watson said . “So to see him processing the game fast and allowing him to play with a lot of that speed was really cool to see. It’s good seeing him make smart decisions on that touchdown to recognize that there’s no safety in the middle of the field, give it a little stutter, and then took the grass. So just seeing him take huge strides each week, I know that’s going to keep going throughout the season.”

With Worthy boasting terrifying speed that forces defenses to back up so that he cannot burn them over the top, Mahomes stated that it opens up space for others on underneath routes to feast.

We saw that against the Lions, Worthy put the foot on the gas on a deep route and cleared out space for Mahomes to connect with Watson underneath for a nice completion, and that will no doubt be one way the Chiefs will use Worthy in the regular season.

Now, with so many options at his disposal, Mahomes and the offense could be far more devastating in 2024, and we haven't even mentioned tight end Travis Kelce yet.

But with home-run speed from Worthy and Brown, the Chiefs have the deep ball back in their offensive arsenal, and you can bet that Mahomes will be dialing up the launch codes often in 2024.
