As we head into the final weeks of August and NFL fans prepare for their upcoming fantasy football drafts across the nation, players are scrambling to get in their final draft prep and scouring the internet for last-minute advice to win their leagues.

One of the biggest questions facing fantasy players is who they should draft at quarterback, and have lead their teams on a hopeful championship run. ESPN's Field Yates recently came out and had an incredibly bold take on who that guy should be in 2024.

    Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen.

"For me, it's Josh Allen clearly as quarterback No. 1 going into this season for fantasy football purposes," Yates said on First Take. "Even without Stefon Diggs, Gabe Davis, and that new-look wide receiver room. He's been the highest-scoring player in all of fantasy football in three of the last four seasons."

While a lot of NFL fans will think it may be a bit of a stretch to say that Allen is the best QB in the league, you have to remember that this is not a conversation about the top passer overall, but the best fantasy player.

"This is not a debate about how the player is in real life," Yakes continues. "This is just using the numbers in many cases to guide and influence our decisions."

Yates' prediction goes along with what we are seeing so far in fantasy drafts, with Allen's ADP (average draft position) around No. 1 or No. 2 among all quarterbacks according to Yahoo Sports, ESPN, NFL.com, and CBS Sports. In most of those leagues, Allen is being drafted in the second or third round of the draft because of the depth at the position.

According to ESPN, Allen was the second-highest fantasy player in the league in 2023, behind only Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb. Of course, he did lose two of his biggest targets this offseason, with Diggs going to the Houston Texans, and Davis going to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

However, the Bills did add WR Curtis Samuel and WR Marquez Valdez-Scantling in free agency, and they drafted Florida State rookie WR Keon Coleman as well.

Other fantasy players may be enticed by QBs like Jalen Hurts or Lamar Jackson for the rushing upside that they bring, but Allen could be the smartest choice of them all for the consistency that he's had over the past several years.
