Huskers QB Dylan Raiola named to 2 preseason true freshman All-American teams

The Nebraska Cornhuskers haven’t yet officially named their starting quarterback for the upcoming season but the presumed frontrunner is already getting accolades.

Both 247Sports and On3 included Dylan Raiola on their preseason true freshman All-American teams.

Raiola was rated as a top-10 recruit in the country by most outlets last year when the Huskers got him to flip his commitment from Georgia ahead of National Signing Day.

He’s been competing with fellow true freshman Daniel Kaelin and junior Heinrich Haarberg for the starting job this spring and summer, and at this point, it’d be a big surprise if he wasn’t named the starter.

The highest-rated Huskers commit since Marlon Lucky in 2005, per 247Sports, Raiola has drawn comparisons to Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes for his look off the field but has also worked with some of the coaches and trainers Mahomes and other NFL stars work with.

Nebraska improved the weapons around the quarterback spot since last season and, with Raiola in the fold, seems almost guaranteed to significantly improve upon last year's 129th-ranked passing game.

Huskers head coach Matt Rhule is expected to announce the starter sometime this week.

The team opens the season on Aug. 31 against UTEP.
