New York Liberty Make Troubling Sabrina Ionescu Announcement

Sabrina Ionescu has been on an absolute tear for the New York Liberty this season. In 27 games played thus far, the three-time All-Star is averaging a career-high 19.9 points , to go along with 4.4 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 1.0 steals, while also knocking down 3.0 triples per contest. There's no denying that the 26-year-old has been a central figure for New York as they sit on a league-best 23-4 record.

Unfortunately, Ionescu's hot streak will come to an abrupt halt on Monday when they take on the Dallas Wings at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. This is after the former Oregon standout was ruled out of the game due to a neck injury.

For what it's worth, Ionescu was a game-time decision heading into this matchup, and it wasn't until half an hour before tip-off that her status was officially updated to out.

This could mean that the injury, which was also bothering her during the Liberty's last outing, might not be too serious. Ionescu looked fine during Saturday's 79-67 victory over the defending champions Las Vegas Aces. She put up a team-high 23 points on 9-of-21 shooting, with three triples, six boards, three assists and a steal in 36 minutes of action.

Ionescu's next chance to play will be on Thursday in a rematch against Dallas, and her status for that one will be worth monitoring. As long as Sabrina is out, however, the likes of Ivana Dojkic, Marquesha Davis and Kayla Thornton should be in line for additional minutes in her stead.
