Mavs Two-Headed Monster Earns Raise in NBA 2K

The Dallas Mavericks have a two-headed monster in Daniel Gafford and Dereck Lively II. The Mavs have a formidable force in the paint for the first time since Tyson Chandler and Brandon Haywood, with the former name handling most of the load. NBA 2K, known for its consistent promotional schedule, released their Top 100 Players list.

Gafford and Lively crack the top 100, with the former at No. 95 and the latter at No. 98; Dallas is looking to have some high-rated players.

Lively's rating took a nine-point upgrade. As the defensive anchor for the Mavs defense, as a rookie no less, suggests NBA2K doesn't value defense as highly as it should. The Mavericks ended the 2024-25 season on a 15-game stretch with the best defensive rating. Dallas' defensive anchor starts the 2024-25 season with an 81 overall rating.

Lively ending the season with a mid to high 80s rating shouldn't surprise 2K fans.

On the other hand, Gafford's efficiency in field goal percentage alone allows the Mavs center a rating in the 80s. However, 2K gave Gafford a four-point rise in rating. Lively and Gafford share the same overall rating of 81. Gafford converted 72 percent of his shots from the field, which led the NBA last season.

With Doncic and Irving as the leaders in the backcourt, Lively and Gafford will feast on easy baskets while maintaining the Mav defensive identity on the other side.

Perhaps NBA 2K needs to do some tinkering with its rating system.
