Bengals Defenders Did Not Hold Back With Anthony Richardson Trash Talk

Anthony Richardson is quite the polarizing case. Considered a raw prospect when he was drafted, the Indianapolis Colts' fourth-overall pick showed flashes of game-breaking talent during his rookie season. However, a season-ending injury left a lot of questions for fans.

So far, Richardson's second offseason has been a mixed back. He's shown the same elite skills from last season: a cannon arm and insane athleticism. However, the Colts star's consistency isn't quite there yet.

During the Colts' joint practice with the Cincinnati Bengals, Richardson and the offense struggled against the first-team defenders. Missed throws and miscommunication became the downfall of the team. Their struggles prompted some trash-talk from Cincinnati's defenders.

“Throw the ball, bro!” Bengals defensive tackle B.J. Hill yelled at Richardson during one possession, per James Boyd of The Athletic. Other Bengals defenders chimed in, including cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt and safety Geno Stone.

“Is that all he does is run?” Taylor-Britt asked.

Meanwhile, after a missed throw, Stone shouted, “He’s just throwing to spots. He doesn’t see his receivers.”

Richardson's biggest strength is his rushing ability. Built like a linebacker, the Colts star is not afraid to use his speed and strength to gain a first down and then some. However, there were concerns about his ability to process a defense and his accuracy.

In the joint practice, the Bengals also put the clamps on Jonathan Taylor and the rushing game. That naturally led to the passing attack crumbling. It's worth noting that in the two-minute drill, Richardson and the Colts' offense looked much better, getting to field goal range.

He may not have played a lot in his rookie year, but Richardson is now looking to avoid the sophomore slump. He'll have a few weeks to shake off the rust before Week 1 kicks off against the Houston Texans.
