Gymnastics Legend Aly Raisman Raises Suspicions About Jordan Chiles’ Score Inquiry

The International Olympic Committee and International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) have some explaining to do in Aly Raisman’s eyes.

The six-time Olympic medalist and former USA gymnast is having a hard time wrapping her head around exactly how the bronze-medal controversy that’s followed Jordan Chiles home from the 2024 Paris Olympics has unfolded the way it has.

Because according to Raisman, the FIG wouldn’t have allowed Cecile Landi to submit a score inquiry on Chiles’ behalf during the floor exercise in Paris if it was outside of the one-minute window permitted to submit such requests, which is exactly what the Court of Arbitration for Sport said happened.

“It makes no sense to me, and that's what's so it's just so devastating and really hard to understand because the inquiry can't be accepted unless it's under that minute,” Raisman told E! News . “…Someone had to validate that the inquiry came in under that minute, and then from there, the judges admitted they made a mistake, they raised the score, and none of that would have happened if it was not under that minute time frame.”

Not only would the judges not allow a score inquiry to happen past the allowable one-minute window, but USA Gymnastics submitted proof to the CAS with a time-stamped video that Landi’s score inquiry requests came at 44 seconds and 55 seconds after Chiles’ score was announced, both well within that 60-second window.

However, the CAS ruled that even with the video evidence submitted by USAG, its initial ruling that nullified Chiles’ revised score of 13.766 and reinstated her original one of 13.666 and effectively stripped her of her bronze medal was final because the agency’s rules don’t allow for cases to be reconsidered once the CAS rules on it.

Raisman is on-record stating the IOC and FIG need to revamp its scoring systems and protocols so ensure an incident like this doesn’t happen again, especially on a stage as big as the Olympics.

“I just think there needs to be a lot more transparency,” Raisman told “The Today Show .” “And going forward, we need to understand how this is happening and how to ensure this doesn’t happen again — it’s appalling.”
