The Memphis Grizzlies will be under the spotlight for the 2024-25 NBA season. They will be expected to make a comeback following a forgettable run last year. Of course, Ja Morant will be everyone's center of attention.

But players like Jaren Jackson Jr., Desmond Bane, and Zach Edey will play crucial roles as well. Speaking of Edey, the former Purdue star was selected as the ninth overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. The Canadian star is expected to bolster the center position for the Grizzlies.

Morant and Edey take part in a practice session

Edey’s growth could make or break the upcoming season for Memphis. While he was dominant as it gets during his NCAA career, playing in the NBA is not a small deal. Keeping that in mind, it’s obvious that he needs to build excellent chemistry with his teammates to showcase his skills on the court.

Keeping that in mind, Morant and Edey’s video of practicing plays during the offseason was uploaded on X (formerly known as Twitter).

In the clip, the two stars were seen practicing pick and rolls. So far, they looked smooth with the play. They also tried a couple of lobs at the rim and as expected, Edey finished them with ease.

How good was Edey at Purdue?

The 7’4” center played four seasons at Purdue, where he averaged 18.2 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game for the program. While Edey took his time to get settled during the first two seasons, he became a force to be reckoned with in the final two years of college.

Edey graduated college with 2x AP POY, 2x Wooden Award, 2x Naismith Award, 2x Consensus AA, 2x Big Ten POY, 3x All-Big Ten, 2x All-Big Ten Tourney, 2x Big Ten All-Defensive, Big Ten All-Freshman, and Big Ten Tourney MVP.

It’s an elite resume for the 22-year-old and Grizzlies fans will hope he can bring that talent to the NBA as well. If Edey succeeds in doing so, he could become the steal of the draft for Memphis.
