Kyle Shanahan Hints What 'Obsessed' Christian McCaffrey Was Really Thinking About on His Wedding Day

Christian McCaffrey has missed most of the San Francisco 49ers training camp with a calf injury, but head coach Kyle Shanahan said he's not too worried about the football "obsessed" running back.

McCaffrey has been sidelined for several weeks of the team's training camp and preseason games with the injury, but said he is working to be ready by the team's season opener against the New York Jets on Monday Night Football on September 9.

Shanahan shared praise for McCaffrey's rehab work, saying the running back is obsessed with football and was probably thinking about the team's playbook when he and longtime girlfriend Olivia Culpo tied the knot. The pair were married on June 29 at a ceremony in Rhode Island with Shanahan in attendance.

"When he is probably walking down the aisle to get married, he's probably thinking about his feet and how to do routes, no offense to Olivia [Culpo]," Shanahan said, via ESPN's Adam Schefter on X . "But he's obsessed with it."

McCaffrey has been a centerpiece of San Francisco's offense since joining the team in 2022. He had a league-best 2,023 yards from scrimmage and 21 total touchdowns last season, earning AP Offensive Player of the Year honors and helping lead the 49ers to the Super Bowl.
