Some Players are Stepping up in Kentucky's Wide Receiver Room

Kentucky is just under two weeks away from their season-opener inside Kroger Field against Southern Miss. With that, one player at the wide receiver position will be forced to miss some time this season, one that would have been a solid contributor on the offensive side of the ball. That player is Hardley Gilmore, a three-star freshman receiver out of Florida.

Stoops confirmed the injury to Gilmore when giving injury updates after their final preseason scrimmage on Saturday. "Hardley will be out for a decent bit. At least mid-season or more," Stoops told media. Asked if he's worried about the injury, the head coach noted that he likes the depth of the position right now. "We've got good depth at that position, but as I've mentioned before, I really believe in the guys we have, it's just total numbers. You can't start losing more, because then you're into a problem with capacity of practice."

Who is stepping up right now at the position aside from Barion Brown, Dane Key, and Ja'Mori Maclin? Anthony Brown-Stephens, a returning receiver, and Fred Farrier, a Grad transfer from Missouri have been making plays in camp as the season nears. "Both of those guys have done a tremendous job, they really have. Fred's probably been one of our most consistent wide receivers throughout camp, runs precise routes, makes plays on the ball, is tough on the perimeter. We're extremely fortunate to have him," Offensive Coordinator Bush Hamdan told media. "Anthony Brown is one of the best ball and hand guys we have. He's got electricity on the outside carrying the football."

Quarterback Brock Vandagriff should feel confident whenever he puts the ball in the air with this talented wide receiver room.
