The second half of the 2024 WNBA season is underway, and conversations are being had about the current playoff picture.

As things stand, the New York Liberty dominate the Eastern Conference with a 24-4 record while the Connecticut Sun follow closely with a 20-7 display.

In the Western Conference, the Minnesota Lynx hold the top spot with a 19-8 record while the Las Vegas Aces and Seattle Storm compete for the second and third seeds with 17-9 and 18-10 showings, respectively.

There is one team in the picture WNBA legend Sue Bird has her eyes on with the postseason getting closer, and it involves the Indiana Fever.

“What I’ve learned in my WNBA experience is pace of play trumps physicality, it trumps size, it can trump experience… what I see in Caitlin, what I see in Kelsey Mitchell, they’re just ramming it down people’s throats,” Bird said.

Her reasons are legitimate, despite the Fever's record saying otherwise. Indiana sits third in the East with a 13-15 record, just below .500, while trailing behind Connecticut by 7.5 games and New York by 11 games.

Nonetheless, their style of play centered around Caitlin Clark, Kelsey Mitchell, and Aliyah Boston has been entertaining for fans to watch with the offense they showcase. They are fifth in points per game with 82.7, fifth in offensive rating with 104.4, and fifth in pace with 79.2.

While the Fever have some defensive issues to iron out, ranked second-to-last in the league with 86.9 points allowed per game, they are 2-0 since returning from the All-Star Break with victories over Phoenix and Seattle.

The next pair of upcoming matchups for Indiana includes dates with Minnesota on Aug. 24 and Atlanta on Aug. 26.
