Caitlin Clark recently went viral after she joked that WNBA players can't afford to buy season tickets for their extended family with the meager salary they are receiving. Unfortunately for the Indiana Fever rookie, her subtle shade at the league also sparked discussions about her spending habits.

Clark made her comments after the Fever's showdown with the Seattle Storm last Sunday, Aug. 18. Prior to the game, she turned a lot of heads with her outfit. Now, a number of news outlets have turned their attention to the cost of her wardrobe choice.

According to a New York Post report, everything that Clark wore pregame cost over $20,000 . She sported a Veronica Beard pinstripe set, with the top and the slacks priced at a combined $726.

The Fever guard also rocked a Versace tote bag that is reportedly worth $1,995, and Nike Air Force 1’07 shoes that cost $115. The most expensive accessories she wore, however, were her John Hardy bracelets that cost $3,000 and her Rolex watch that is estimated to be worth $15,000.

As mentioned, several news outlets ran the story, seemingly trying to paint Clark in a bad light. A headline from Daily Mail read, "REVEALED: Caitlin Clark's designer pregame outfit 'cost staggering $20K' - 30 PERCENT of her WNBA salary - on same day she moaned about her wage."

Additionally, The Express dropped a news headlined , "Caitlin Clark moaned about her WNBA wage hours before wearing $20k outfit."

For what it's worth, fans were quick to defend Clark, noting that it's unlikely she spent her money on those clothes. Considering her popularity, it's highly likely that the items she wore were from her sponsors.

"Imagine thinking she actually paid for all that," a commenter shared.

Another one said, "LOL at anybody who thinks she paid for those out of pocket. They were either given to her for free, or she may have been paid to wear them."

A third supporter pointed out, "These were probably gifted by the brand for her, or borrow from a stylist. These designer brands are fighting to dress her atp."

Caitlin Clark is certainly getting a lot of unnecessary buzz because she chose to speak up about a long-time issue in the WNBA. Hopefully, with all the talk about her outfit, more people will also pay attention to the real problem at hand.
