We're a week away from Kentucky's season opener against Southern Miss, but that's not stopping Mark Stoops and company from adding even more depth to the roster. According to KSR's Nick Roush , the Wildcats have added in-state prospect Sage Dawson as a walk-on for this season, and will be a freshman.

Dawson, a native of Boyle County, was originally committed to Air Force, but a pitch from some of the Kentucky staff led him to stay home in the Bluegrass. He was a standout at Boyle County, playing both quarterback and cornerback. Originally planning to play only football at Air Force, the baseball coach was intrigued by his athleticism, thus leading to him intending to play multiple sports there, according to Roush. At Kentucky, there hasn't been reports of him planning to play baseball, at least yet. But right now, the focus is on the football season that is inching closer.

In his time at Boyle County, he led the Rebels to a Class 4A state championship while playing in Kroger Field, and earned Class 4A Player of the Year on his way to the title. He was impressive as a quarterback for the Rebels. In his high school career, he tallied 2,509 passing yards for 29 touchdowns, while scrambling for nearly 400 yards, adding a couple of touchdowns on the ground. On the defensive side, he had 24 tackles in his career, with a few of those being tackles for loss.

Dawson is joining Kentucky's roster as a defensive back, adding more depth in the secondary with the quarterback room already loaded at the moment.
