Commanders Trade for Kicker Cade York

Kicking woes will sink a team hopes in a heartbeat. The Washington Commanders have struggled at the kicker position this preseason as Riley Patterson hasn’t been able to find the groove.

The last thing a struggling team needs is a kicker that costs their team points. Missed kicks only adds to the frustration of a team trying to rebuild and move in the right direction.

On Thursday, a report was released indicating that the Commanders would be sending a conditional seventh-round pick to the Cleveland Browns for kicker Cade York.

York was selected in the fourth-round in 2022 out of LSU making 75 percent of his kicks going 24-of-32 while going just 4-of-7 from 50+ yards. He was cut last year when Dustin Hopkins won the job over him.

The Browns brought him back for training camp to once again compete with Hopkins for the job. The Browns have settled on Hopkins again, and are trading York to Washington.

York will have the opportunity to come in and compete with Patterson during this final preseason game against the New England Patriots for the opportunity to head into the season as the Commanders kicker.

This will definitely be a competition to watch on Ssunday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. EST
