Chiefs Sign Creed Humphrey To Richest Center Contract in NFL

The quarterback has won three Super Bowl MVPs. And now the man who snaps Patrick Mahomes the ball for the Kansas City Chiefs is the highest-paid center in the NFL.

After two Pro Bowl seasons and a pair of Super Bowl titles, Chiefs' center Creed Humphrey on Thursday signed a new four-year, $72 million contract that makes the richest player at his position.

Humphrey, who was set to enter the final year of his rookie contract, will make an average of $18 million per season. The previous record was owned by Jason Kelce of the Philadelphia Eagles at $14 million.

"He's been great for our organization," Chiefs' general manger Brett Veach said. "We look forward to him being a part of our future success."

He has started 51 consecutive games - every game possible - since the Chiefs drafted him in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He's also started Kansas City's last 10 playoff games including Super Bowl wins in LVII and LVIII.

Humphrey is equally adept as a run- and pass-blocker, and has been instrumental in keeping Mahomes protected, upright and healthy during the Chiefs' last two championships.

Like Mahomes and most of the Chiefs' starters, Humphrey is sitting out Thursday night's preseason finale against the Chicago Bears in order to be healthy for the Sept. 5 regular-season opener against the Baltimore Ravens.

The Chiefs trail the Bears, 7-0, late in the first quarter after kicker Harrison Butker - also the highest-paid at his position in the league - missed just wide right on a 59-yard field goal.
