Tyler Van Dyke transferred to the Wisconsin football program in an attempt to revive and salvage his college football career with one year of eligibility left.

After a great start to his college career where, as a redshirt freshman for Miami (FL), Van Dyke threw for 2,931 yards, 25 touchdowns, and just six interceptions en route to winning the ACC Rookie of the Year Award.

Since that season, however, his career with the Hurricanes was marred by injuries and turnovers. He never got back to the level he played in 2021.

Phil Longo and the Wisconsin football coaching staff saw enough in him to bring him in from the transfer portal. He quickly won the position battle over redshirt sophomore Braedyn Locke, who played in five games for the Badgers as a backup in 2023.

Understandably, there are plenty of critics of Van Dyke and his ability to lead the Badgers this season. Most pundits rank him as a middle-of-the-pack quarterback in the Big Ten, but Dalton Wasserman, a college football analyst for Pro Football Focus, has Tyler Van Dyke third in his Big Ten quarterback rankings.

The only quarterbacks ahead of him are Heisman-favorite Dillon Gabriel from Oregon and Penn State's Drew Allar.

Wasserman must think highly of Tyler Van Dyke, placing him ahead of highly-touted players like Will Howard and Will Rodgers. He's even ahead of USC QB Miller Moss, who some think could put up big numbers under Lincoln Riley.

The PFF analyst and co-host of the PFF College Football Show released his rankings for all of the Power Five quarterbacks, placing Van Dyke at No. 15.

Here's what Wasserman had to say about the starting quarterback for the Wisconsin football team:

"After a rollercoaster ride at Miami that oscillated between stardom and struggle, Van Dyke brings his bazooka arm to Madison. He doesn’t move much, but when he is protected, he can make any throw on the field from the pocket. If Van Dyke can avoid streaks of bad ball security, he can substantially raise the ceiling of the Badgers’ offense."

There have been a lot of positive reports out of camp about how the offense looks in year two under Longo. If Tyler Van Dyke plays like the third-best quarterback in the Big Ten, the Badgers could have a real chance to make some noise this year.
