Texas Coach Steve Sarkisian Provides Cryptic Arch Manning Update

    By Kevin Borba,

After seeing minimal action as the third-string quarterback during his freshman season, Texas' signal caller Arch Manning is one spot higher on the depth chart.

Fans often clamored for the nephew of Peyton and Eli Manning to get into games last season, but he appeared just twice. However, with a Week 1 meeting against Colorado State, where Texas is favored by over 30 points, it does seem like a prime opportunity to get the heir to the Manning throne in the game.

Something that Steve Sarkisian wouldn't commit to when talking to the media on Monday.

"We'll find out," Sarkisian said when asked if Manning would play.

Whether this is Sarkisian trying to take some pressure off of Manning, or making sure that he and his team respect their opponent is unclear. Regardless, the head coach likely doesn't want him or his team to have the mindset that they will blow the Rams out, and everyone will get in. We all know overlooking an opponent can lead to embarrassment and disaster, which we saw in Dublin during Week Zero with Florida State and Georgia Tech.

In 2023, Manning completed just 2-of-5 passes for 30 yards, but still went viral during his appearance. We did, however, see a large dosage of the former five-star out of New Orleans during the spring game.

Manning saw most of the snaps by design and took advantage of the opportunity. He completed 19-of-25 passes for 355 yards and three touchdowns, making big plays seemingly every time he let it fly.

Assuming the Longhorns don't sleep-walk into Week 1, Manning should get some sort of playing time if all goes well.
