Caitlin Clark Makes WNBA History Against Connecticut Sun

On Wednesday evening, Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever hosted the Connecticut Sun at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. The Fever are looking for their second win in a row, while the Sun look for their fourth.

Clark has broken records in what seems to be every game this season, and the Sun battle was no different.

With 7:17 left in the first quarter, Clark made her first shot on a long step-back three-pointer, which was her 86th three of the 2024 season. In doing so, Clark passed Atlanta Dream star Rhyne Howard (85) for the most three-pointers made in a rookie season in WNBA history. Howard initially broke the record during her first WNBA season in 2022.

It took Howard 34 games to break the record in 2022, but for Clark, it only took 31. She will likely shatter the record with nine games remaining after the Connecticut matchup.

Prior to the Sun battle, Clark had attempted 255 three-pointers, shooting 33.3% from beyond the arc. In 2022, Howard shot 34.3% on 248 three-point attempts, a much lower volume than Clark.

It comes as no surprise that Clark broke a three-point record, as she made a name for herself with her shooting ability during her time with the Iowa Hawkeyes. In four years of college ball, Clark broke the all-time women's college record for most threes made with 548.
