Gophers to debut new uniforms for 2024 season opener

The Minnesota Golden Gophers will debut new uniforms at Huntington Bank Stadium when they open their 2024 season against the North Carolina Tar Heels on Thursday night.

The Minnesota Football account posted a video, unveiling the uniform while a player was standing on a dock near a lake. Very fitting.

The uniforms feature gold jerseys with maroon numbers and lettering, maroon pants and a classic maroon helmet with a gold "M" logo on the sides.

The Gophers already had announced that the team would be wearing three new uniforms this season, the biggest change since 2018.

It marks the first time Minnesota will wear gold jerseys since 2020, which seems odd it wouldn't be a consistent feature for a team that calls themselves the "Golden Gophers."

Here's what a press release stated back in June regarding the new uniforms fans will see this season:

"The most significant changes to the uniforms are the addition of shoulder stripes to the jerseys and stripes on the side of the pants. The state of Minnesota will be featured on the outside collar of all three jerseys, while Minnesota's rallying call of Ski-U-Mah will be emblazoned on the inside of the jersey collar. The iconic Block M will remain on the front of the jersey, situated in the middle of the collar right above the numbers. The Big Ten logo will be on the right chest, while the Nike swoosh will be on the left chest and left hip of the uniforms."

The Gophers and Tar Heels will kickoff at 7 p.m. Thursday CT. The game will be televised on FOX.
