The Pittsburgh Steelers haven’t won a playoff game since 2016. Even though they won 10 games a season ago and made the playoffs, poor quarterback play ended their season in the Wild Card round.

This offseason they signed veteran quarterback Russell Wilson to be the starter. Coach Mike Tomlin officially named Wilson the starter this week.

In speaking to the media for the first time since the announcement, Wilson exuded confidence in this team's ability to achieve.

“I know I’m ready, we’re ready, and we’re looking forward to playing,” Wilson said. “The goal is to help the Pittsburgh Steelers win a seventh trophy. I came here to be a Pittsburgh Steeler, help us win another Super Bowl. I believe in this football team.”

Wilson, 35, beat out Justin Fields for the starting job. Many question if this was ever a competition at all. Coach Tomlin has taken fire in the media from those who believe that Fields should be the starter and they believe that Tomlin’s approach to the competition was a charade.

Meanwhile, with this decision done ... Pittsburgh has one of the toughest schedules in the NFL. The Steelers need to get off to a hot start as their schedule is backloaded with six of their final eight games being divisional games.

The other two games in that stretch are against the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs.

The Steelers kick their season off on the road at the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday Sept. 8. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. EDT.
