If it seems like this contract drama for San Francisco 49ers star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has been going on for a while, it's because it has.

Back in May of this year, Aiyuk started to create rumblings that he was unhappy with his contract, opting out of voluntary team activities and practices this spring as negotiations began. On June 4th, Aiyuk was a no-show at the 49ers mandatory minicamp. On July 16th, he requested a trade, and on July 24th, Aiyuk started his "hold in," showing up to 49ers practices but refusing to play until his contract disputes were over.

That brings us to where we are now, with the San Francisco pass-catcher still refusing to suit up and prepare for the 2024 season. While a lot of fans have grown frustrated over the drama that has ensued, one notable media member is offering his staunch support for Aiyuk.

ESPN's Mike Greenberg is saying that in the same position, he would do exactly what Aiyuk is doing.

"If I'm Brandon Aiyuk, I don't even consider stepping on the field until I have a new contract somewhere," Greeny said on ESPN's Get Up.

The 49ers kick off the 2024 season in a little under two weeks, hosting Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets on Monday Night Football. Will Aiyuk be there to help the defending NFC Champions in a pivotal early season game?

    Only time will tell.
