Cincinnati Bengals Superstar WR Reportedly has an Incredibly Petty Salary Goal

This offseason, Ja'Marr Chase has been making headlines for attending but not participating in practices and in Training Camp. He's been participating in a "hold-in" of sorts while he and his camp work on getting an extension from the Cincinnati Bengals.

NFL Network 's Ian Rappaport spoke on "From The Insiders" about Chase and his quest to become the highest-paid receiver.

Rappaport believes that Chase's goal is to be the highest-paid receiver "by one cent." Yes, not $1 million, $0.01. When an incredibly petty goal to usurp a former teammate.

However, it should be noted that the Bengals and Chase have been tight-lipped, as is usually the case in Cincinnati. Rappaport even said in that clip, "we've gotten almost no insight into what is happening, and I believe that is, in fact, by design."

The fact of the matter is nobody outside of those negotiations knows what is going on. It was reported earlier this week that Chase was after a four-year, $160 million with about $120 million guaranteed.

Chase knows that he has little leverage right now. He's under contract for 2024 and 2025 thanks to the fifth-year option. It's normal to start negotiating for that second contract after year three.

Joe Burrow was signed to his extension last year and his big money will hit in 2025. It is always possible that the two sides are close to an extension and will announce the signing at the beginning of the Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens game as they did last year with the Chiefs' game with the Detroit Lions.

This franchise has a history of getting it done with both the quarterback and star receiver. Carson Palmer had Chad Johnson . Andy Dalton had A.J. Green . Now that Burrow is extended, it's Chase's turn.

The deal will get done. Whether it's this year or next, $160 million or $140,000,000.01, Chase will be a Bengal for the foreseeable future.
