New Montreal Canadiens forward Patrik Laine spoke out about his recent mental health struggles, shedding light on the challenges he has faced over the past year and encouraging folks to seek help without hesitation.

In a heartfelt video posted on Instagram as part of the newly launched From Us To You community organization founded by the player and his fiancée , Laine discussed his journey, emphasizing the importance of seeking help and the role it has played in his recovery.

"I think one of the best [pieces of] advice ever given to me was to be brave enough to ask for help," Laine said. "Personally, I struggle with that a lot. There’s a lot of shame, a lot of being too proud to reach out and ask for help."

Laine admitted that for a long time, he felt like reaching out was akin to complaining, but he has since realized that people do want to listen and help.

Laine’s mental health challenges culminated with the forward surrendering, accepting his situation, and entering the NHL’s Player Assistance Program in January while he still was with the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Laine missed the remainder of the regular season. Meanwhile, he focused on getting the support he needed, which he ultimately got as he's let everybody know in his recent social posts.

Laine credited much of his progress to his therapist, saying, "I’ve learned that talking is the best medicine for that, whether it’s to your friends, to a professional. For me, it’s been my therapist... going through the emotions over and over again, even though it’s not too much fun to talk about."

Laine and his fiancée, Jordan Leigh, launched this new initiative, which is a program designed to help others dealing with mental health issues, encouraging open discussions and providing support and resources.

"We are so excited to finally be able to share what we have been working on. This project is close to our hearts, and we hope that by creating From Us to You, we can open up a safe space for discussion, support, resources, and growth together," Laine said.
