    Steelers: AFC North’s Biggest Underdogs?

The Pittsburgh Steelers , a team with one of the most consistent track records in the NFL, find themselves in an unfamiliar position ahead of the 2024 season.

Despite 11 playoff appearances and a winning record in each of Mike Tomlin's 17 seasons, the Steelers have been pegged as the least likely team to win the AFC North, according to a panel of NFL analysts from NFL.com.

Out of 28 total votes for the AFC North division winner, the Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals dominate the predictions, with 15 and 11 votes, respectively. Meanwhile, the Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers each received just one first-place vote, indicating a lack of faith in the Steelers' ability to compete for the division crown. Even more telling is that Pittsburgh garnered a single vote to secure a wildcard spot, tying them with the Denver Broncos for the fewest wildcard votes across the AFC.

Analysts expect the AFC North to be a battle this season, with all four teams projected to reach double-digit wins. However, the Steelers are seen as the biggest underdog in the group. With the Browns coming off an 11-win season and the Ravens and Bengals viewed as perennial contenders, Pittsburgh will need to overcome significant odds to secure a playoff berth.

The Steelers , under Tomlin's guidance, have consistently fielded competitive teams, maintaining a .500 or better record each year. But postseason success has been elusive, as Pittsburgh remains without a playoff win since 2016. As the team prepares for another challenging season, they face the daunting task of proving the doubters wrong and emerging from one of the NFL's toughest divisions.

While the predictions paint a grim picture, Steelers fans know that Tomlin and his team thrive on being underestimated. With a strong defense, and a motivated squad, the Steelers could yet surprise the critics and make a run for a playoff spot.
