The Wisconsin Badgers defeated the Western Michigan Broncos last night, 28-14, to begin their season 1-0.

Despite being 23.5-point favorites , the Badgers struggled for most of the game to separate themselves from the Broncos. In fact, the Badgers found themselves down 13-14 in the fourth quarter, giving Camp Randall a very uneasy feeling.

Wisconsin was able to pull away in the fourth after a fortuitous bounce on a punt that deflected off an opponent and the Badgers were able to recover deep in Western Michigan territory.

From there, the Badgers were able to punch it in with a Tawee Walker 6-yard run. The scoring drive was capped off with a successful 2-point conversion on a nice pass from Tyler Van Dyke to Trech Kekehuna in the back of the end zone.

A Van Dyke rushing touchdown late in the fourth put the nail in the coffin, giving the Badgers a 28-14 lead.

I asked Wisconsin Badgers fans what their thoughts were after the game, and as you can imagine, there isn't a whole lot of positivity in the air right now.

Some Wisconsin Badgers Fans See the Same Old Team

Despite the win, some fans aren't overly encouraged because it reminded them of Week 1 last season, when the Badgers' lackluster performance led to an uninspiring victory over Buffalo.

A General Feeling Among Badgers Fans Seems to Be Frustration

For most fans, a Week 1 game against a MAC opponent at least means a comfortable win where there isn't much of a doubt of what the outcome will be.

Yes, this is Division I football and even the players at Western Michigan are Division I athletes, but with the hype that followed Luke Fickell and his staff to Madison, fans expect the Badgers to dominate games like this.

Some Fans are Still In Wait-And-See Mode

On a not-as-negative note, some fans are still hanging onto some hope that this team can play well this season and this game was just a rusty start to the season, focusing on some of the positives they saw coming out of the game.

The Badgers will have another chance next Saturday when they play South Dakota at home, a game Wisconsin will be heavily favored in. A dominant performance over an FCS team seems necessary, otherwise the uneasieness of this fanbase will continue to grow.
