Fans Worried For Dillon Gabriel After Concerning Week 1 Moment

On Saturday night, sixth-year quarterback Dillon Gabriel and the No. 3 Oregon Ducks opened up the 2024 season against the Idaho Vandals.

Gabriel is playing with the Ducks for the first time after spending three years with Central Florida, followed by two years with the Oklahoma Sooners.

Gabriel came into the college football season as the favorite to win the Heisman trophy, sitting at +600 on most sites. However, the 6-foot senior from Mililani, Hawaii, may have suffered an early setback in Week 1.

With around five minutes left to play in the first quarter, the Ducks faced a 3rd-and-10 situation at their own 44-yard line. As he threw the ball with an Idaho player in his face, Gabriel hit his hand on the defender's helmet on his follow-through.

Gabriel had his hand checked out on the sidelines by the team trainers during the commercial break, but he didn't miss any time and came back in on the next possession. It's certainly something to monitor, as any damage to a quarterback's throwing hand is always cause for concern.

College football fans are worried for the Heisman favorite after suffering this minor setback, taking to social media to express their concerns.

"Dillon Gabriel seems to have hurt his throwing hand on the follow through"

    "Hope Dillon Gabriel is ok"

"Oh my god, is Dillon Gabriel injured?"

"Did Dillon Gabriel hurt his throwing hand?"

    "dillon gabriel holding his hand…"

"Dillon Gabriel injured on the 2nd drive"

The Oregon Ducks are entering their first season in the Big Ten after departing from the Pac-12 this past offseason. In 2023 with the Sooners, Gabriel completed 266 of his 384 passing attempts for 3,660 yards, 30 touchdowns and six interceptions. He also added 373 rushing yards and 12 rushing touchdowns.
