Dillon Gabriel’s Oregon Duck tenure couldn’t have started any better.

The sixth-year senior completed 22 of 26 passes for 244 yards and a touchdown in the first half of Oregon’s matchup against Idaho on Saturday as the Ducks took a 14-0 halftime lead.

He also wrote his name in the college football record books, becoming the eighth player ever to reach 15,000 passing yards. Gabriel also passed Ty Detmer (15,031 yards) for seventh place on the NCAA’s all-time passing list.

At time of publication, Gabriel is just 247 yards shy of passing his predecessor Bo Nix (15,351 yards) for sixth on the all-time passing list.

Gabriel has never had a 4,000-yard passing season at either of his previous stops at UCF or Oklahoma — his career high is the 3,660 yards he threw for last season — but if there an offense to help him hit that mark it’s Dan Lanning’s.

Nix threw for 7,534 yards, 67 touchdowns and just nine interceptions in his two seasons playing for Lanning.

Gabriel entered the year needing 4,352 yards to pass Case Keenum for the most in college football history. Other notable QBs he can pass this season include Timmy Change (17,072), Landry Jones (16,646), Graham Harrell (15,793) and Sam Hartman (15,656).
