SEC Makes College Football History In Week 1

The SEC dominated Week 1 of college football. Teams in the conference have been working around the slogan "It just means more," for years, and they took that to a different level on Saturday.

With blowout victories for the Tennessee Volunteers, Ole Miss Rebels, Alabama Crimson Tide and Auburn Tigers, the SEC had the most 60-point wins of any conference in a single day in the AP Poll era since 1936.

Tennessee took down Chattanooga 69-3, Ole Miss defeated Furman 76-0, Auburn walloped Alabama A&M 73-3 and Alabama defeated Western Kentucky 63-0.

Each SEC team listed was ranked in the preseason Top 25 and rode a substantial boost in the rankings after Week 1.

The Crimson Tide moved into the No. 2 slot, having only Georgia Bulldogs ahead of them in the updated ESPN FPI rankings.

Ole Miss had the biggest jump in the rankings, moving up eight spots to place them as the No. 8 team in the standings.

Tennessee is ranked just ahead of the Rebels at the No. 7 slot.

Auburn is now ranked at No. 16, making that 10 SEC teams that are ranked in the Top 25.

Each team listed played an out-of-conference opponent, with none of them being a Power Four program.

With the shakeup in the ACC and Big Ten, teams like the Rebels and Volunteers were able to inch their way to a Top 5 seeding. They may have more to prove before the FPI credits them with a Top 5 placement, but the conference is certainly on top after Week 1.
